Full job description

1. Serve as an instructor by performing the following activities:

a. Hold pre-enrollment informational sessions and orientation activities for adult education classes

and AO-K pathways;

b. Develop a plan of study with students based on skills, interests and goals;

c. Provide quality instruction so as to provide the best opportunity for students to learn;

d. Assist students in enrolling in College Success and Orientation for adult education students;

e. Coordinate and deliver on-going professional development activities for staff as needed.

2. Use the adult education data base to evaluate programs and make recommendations for program

changes, professional development activities, and collaborations including AO-K:

a. Act as liaison for the AO-K TANF Scholarship;

b. Work closely with the Adult Education Director, Regional Coordinators, and Technical

Center Director to provide guidance and collaborations necessary to meet AO-K goals;

c. Work with Advisory committee and develop partnerships with business and industry that

create opportunities for students and awareness of programs.

3. Consult with the HCC Adult Education Program Director for questions related to the program.

4. Recruitment and Retention Activities:
a. Coordinate marketing activities for the ABE/GED program, AO-K program, and transitional

workshops, and serve as a local point of contact;

b. Provide ongoing transition services;

c. Work with students who are not meeting academic and/or attendance requirements;

d. Assist and refer students to financial, child care, transportation, and other resources as needed;

e. Act as the advisor for AO-K students, following HCC advising practices, and attend campus

advising trainings.

5. Maintenance Activities:
a. Locate a facility to be used for classes;

b. Keep accurate records and supply necessary information to the HCC Adult Education Program Director;

c. Keep records of materials and information received from the Director and share with tutors and students;

d. Perform other instructor-related duties as required.

6. Program Involvement and Development Activities:
a. Be a member of the Kansas Adult Education Association (KAEA);

b. Attend Adult Education Staff Development on the state and local level;

d. Help develop and promote literacy at the local level;

e. Conduct staff training sessions as needed for local tutors.

Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field. Experience in teaching, training, counseling, or testing required. Previous experience in adult education desired.
