SUNY Cortland seeks an Associate Dean for the School of Arts and Sciences who assists and advises the Dean of Arts and Sciences on curricular issues, academic policies and student concerns. The Associate Dean works with students in the School of Arts and Sciences on issues related to registration, graduation, and opportunities for fellowships, internships and study abroad programs, and assists at-risk students in understanding and fulfilling their academic responsibilities. The Associate Dean participates in the review of curricular changes initiated by departments in Arts and Sciences, and upholds college policies in making determinations on probation, suspension, dismissal, readmission, and eligibility for graduation. This position requires a high degree of communication and collaboration with department chairs, academic advisors, program coordinators, and professional staff in a wide range of campus offices. This position has a 12 month obligation and is considered management confidential.

The School of Arts and Sciences is the largest of SUNY Cortland's three schools, housing 18 departments and approximately 3000 students. . The variety of opportunities open to students in the School of Arts and Sciences is staggering. Required Qualifications: A terminal degree and record of achievement in teaching, scholarship and service sufficient for tenure in an academic department in the School of Arts and Sciences is required. Candidates must also possess demonstrated leadership and administrative experience, demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, strong oral and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, demonstrated ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, and a record of strong working relationships with students, faculty and staff.

Preferred Qualifications: Administrative experience at the department chair level or above is preferred. A demonstrated level of cultural competency in working with diverse student populations, experience with developing and maintaining web pages and/or familiarity with computerized student information and curriculum management systems are also preferred.
