Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalency and two years of directly related work experience either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years. Must have a credential in the field of surgical technology through the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA) of CST or CST/CFA.

Must be responsible for directing, evaluating, and reporting student progress toward course objectives and for the period review and updating of course material.

Position Summary

Under general supervision from the Department Chair, the incumbent will be a clinical resource person for the Surgical Technology students and will be responsible for their assignments and clinical evaluations at assigned clinical site. Must be responsible for directing, evaluating, and reporting student progress toward course objectives and for the period review and updating of course material.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will:
• Assigns students to surgical experiences in accordance to hospital policy and individual curriculum needs.
• Monitors and evaluates students at clinical sites in compliance with division policy.
• Grades clinical folders and documentation within a reasonable amount of time. 
• Travel to relevant medical facilities, community venues, as required, in support of curricular activities. 
• Accurately maintains attendance records in accordance with the Attendance Policy, submits class roster daily, maintains a separate record of attendance and grades that is clearly labeled and turned in at the end of the term. 
• Creates a positive and supportive learning environment, including being an advocate for the student’s status as a learner. 
• Attends faculty meetings, in-service meetings, graduation and other college events as required by the College. 
• Works in conjunction with the Program Director and Clinical Coordinator to assess and record student paperwork related to clinical experiences. 
• Works in conjunction with the Hospital Administrator, the Program Director and the Clinical Coordinator to coordinate clinical portion of program. 
• Assists Program Director and Clinical Coordinator with Hospital Orientations as needed 
• Participates in continuing education in accordance to AST, ARCSTSA and SACS-COC policy
• Performs job-related duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of and ability to apply relevant current education methodologies and techniques.

• Possess teaching and facilitation skills. 
• Ability to teach and control the behavior of students.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Primarily moderate activity is required with frequent standing, walking and occasional lifting and manipulation of objects up to 40 pounds or more with assistance.

Work is normally performed in an interior/office work environment.
