Victoria College's Department of Distance Education and Instructional Technology is hiring for a full-time, benefits eligible Instructional Technology Specialist.  This position is responsible for assisting  with the functions related to 1) the distance education efforts of the college and 2) instructional technology college wide in order to enhance the student's learning environment. 


Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Serves as the primary contact for college adopted video conferencing software

  2. Serves as the primary contact for college adopted lecture capture software

  3. Supports and trains faculty and staff in the use of college adopted video conferencing, lecture capture, and multimedia software and in the use of technical equipment to facilitate these software applications and the recording studio

  4. Provides guidance to faculty regarding the integration of appropriate media in instructional strategies

  5. Translates ideas and suggestions into detailed plans (story-boarding) from which multimedia instructional materials can be produced

  6. Assists faculty in producing, creating, editing, and/or compressing audio and video for multiple delivery formats

  7. Researches and remains current in the field of instructional media production design, including trends in production, post-production and emerging technologies, and update technical skills to adapt to changing technologies

  8. Provides training for students in the use of the learning management system (LMS) by

    1. Conducting LMS sessions both as a part of Pirate Orientation and as independent LMS orientations at the beginning of each semester and

    2. Ensuring that the LMS student orientation course remains up-to-date

  9. Serves as tertiary administrator for the LMS

  10. Supports and trains faculty in the use of LMS

  11. Consults with and provides training and direction to instructors developing new online courses

  12. Plans and implements technology training and develops related documentation for faculty, staff, and students in the use of hardware and software

  13. Works with employees, Distance Educational & Instructional Technology (DEIT) staff, Testing Center staff and/or Tech Services staff to resolve technical issues including priority issues that arise outside of traditional office hours

  14. Supports and trains faculty and staff in the use of new technologies adopted by the college

  15. Conducts research to identify potential applications for new and emerging instructional technologies

  16. This position will access student records at times and will follow all FERPA guidelines

  17. Cross trains with the Instructional Technology and Accessibility Specialist

  18. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Distance Education and Instructional Technology



  • Associate Degree in Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Computer Science, or a closely-related field combined with five or more years of experience with LMS, media production and working with faculty required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Computer Information Science, or a closely-related field combined with three or more years of experience with LMS, media production and working with faculty preferred

  • Higher education experience, community college experience preferred

  • Knowledge and/or experience with distance learning, technical/instructional technologies, LMS, video conferencing, lecture capture and teaching/training

  • Basic knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it applies to web and instructional materials

  • Knowledge of project management and training principles

  • Knowledge of basic trademark, copyright and fair use practices for education

  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team

  • Must be able to exercise independent judgment, work effectively and cooperatively with a wide variety of individuals including administrators, faculty, and staff of the College

  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle controls, key pads, etc. Will be required to sit and reach with hands and arms as well as, sit, stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds while loading office supplies and paper. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, some color vision, and the ability to adjust focus from documents to computer screen. Hearing of light to moderate sound is required by this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
