Job Summary

This posting is for one (1) temporary summer internship assisting with areas related to the sustainable agriculture program, including planting, weeding, harvesting and marketing produce. This position will be in effect from 05/6-8/30/19.

Duties include:
•Maintenance of campus farm food production areas including planting, mulching, weeding, watering, harvesting and preparations/support for weekly markets
•Composting duties include pick-up of compostable waste (pre-consumer food scraps), maintenance of composting area, and application of finished compost to beds
•Support of crop and ornamental propagation in hoop-house and greenhouse facilities as needed
•Record keeping and reporting, and supply/tool organization and maintenance
•Other related plant care and production duties as assigned

Required Qualification

High school diploma or its equivalent
Ability to work as part of a team with project supervisors and other staff
Ability to work independently
Ability to work during the weekday business hours
Ability to lift 40 pounds regularly and engage in bending, lifting and physical work for extended periods of time
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather and temperature conditions

Desired Qualifications

Student in pursuit of horticulture, agriculture, plant science or closely related field
Plant knowledge including field identification and cultural requirements
Familiarity with basic propagation methods including both seed and vegetative strategies
Past experience in greenhouse and/or nursery production/propagation work setting
Willingness to assist with teaching demonstrations and guest presentations
Capable of using MS Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point) for reporting and record keeping
