A full-time employment opportunity is available for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Earth and Environment.  This position will be conducting hydrogeological studies in the Florida Everglades in the laboratory of Dr. René Price (https://environment.fiu.edu/facilities-research-groups/research-groups/price-lab ).  The successful candidate will work with Dr. Price in a number of research projects including: the National Science Foundation-funded Florida Coastal Everglades-Long Term Ecological Research (FCE-LTER) project, and South Florida Water Management District and Environmental Protection Agency projects related to Everglades restoration.  The candidate will be expected to use modern statistical techniques to quantitatively analyze long-term data of water levels and water chemistry to discern the impacts of sea level rise, climate change and restoration efforts on the hydrological conditions of the Everglades, and to summarize these data and analyses in papers for publication in the peer-reviewed scientific literature.  The candidate will be expected to collect new data and visit existing field stations in the Everglades on about a quarterly basis via truck, powerboat and/or airboat.  Boating skills are not necessary but would be a plus.  The candidate will also analyze water samples in a laboratory for major ions using an Ion Chromatograph, for alkalinity using an autotitrator and for the stable isotopes of oxygen and hydrogen using a Los Gatos liquid water analyzer.  The candidate would be expected to prepare a manuscript suitable for publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

A Ph.D. in hydrogeology or related discipline is required.  The candidate must have strong quantitative, verbal and written communication skills and a valid driver’s license. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of publication in peer-reviewed journals, and a proven ability to interface well with collaborators and students.
