Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Program Coordinator for the Eagleton Science and Politics Program at the Eagleton Institute of Politics. The Program Coordinator will assist the director with the administration of the Eagleton Science and Politics Program’s core projects, including the Eagleton Science and Politics Fellowship, Workshops, and its research agenda.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Coordinates and administrates Science Fellows’ placements at the University and communicates with their host offices.
  • Day-to-day administrations of the program, including planning, preparation, evaluation, communications, events, records, statistics, reports, and documents.
  • Event planning associated with the Program.
  • Manages Workshop Logistics like planning, promotion, communications, evaluation, records, and reports.
  • Works on other Science and Politics programs as needed.
  • The Eagleton Institute is a collaborative team. On occasion, all members are asked to participate in Institute- wide and /or cross-team projects.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in political science, social studies education, or a closely related field.
  • Two years of experience in program development, managements, coordination, politics or policymaking is required.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Science background is not required for this position.
  • The position requires a strong understanding of American politics at the state level.
  • Must have excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communications skills.
  • Must have outstanding interpersonal skills and be comfortable meeting and working with a broad range of people — from high-level public officials to faculty to students.
  • Must be able to independently manage multiple tasks and short deadlines in high-stress situations. Must be very organized, efficient, detail oriented and self-driven.
  • Must be comfortable working for an organization that is political yet non-partisan and straddles the worlds of politics and academia.
  • Must have advanced understanding of American politics in general and New Jersey politics and government specifically, whether through coursework, professional experience, or personal involvement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional experience in the NJ legislative or executive branch and is strongly preferred.
Equipment Utilized
  • Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher) and standard office equipment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Eagleton offices are located within a historic building with no elevator.
  • The duties of this position regularly involve navigating stairs numerous times a day.
  • An applicant may request a reasonable accommodation if they have a disability that restricts them in their ability to climb and/or navigate stairs.
Special Conditions
  • 1 year appointment. 
  • Some travel, in-state primarily but possibly national, will be required .
  • Will include occasional evening and weekend hours.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
