TITLE: Academic Chair-School of Design

Pittsburgh Technical College is a private, non-profit and regionally accredited institution committed to higher education excellence and focused on academic and professional success. Located in Western Pennsylvania since 1946, PTC awards associate and bachelor’s degrees and certificates in these areas: Business, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Design and Engineering Technology, Healthcare, Nursing, Information Systems and Technology, Trades Technology, and Energy and Electronics Technology. The PTC college experience is empowering and culminates in internships and clinical rotations for on-campus, degree-seeking students.

PURPOSE OF JOB

  • Tailor the training and education material to the level and needs of individual students

  • Develop and maintain instructional methodology which allows individual students to have a sense of successfully accomplishing goals

  • Manage and implement a system of student support which meets solvable student problems and concerns

PRIMARY DUTIES
Leadership and Development

  • Hiring, evaluation, and development of full-time, adjunct faculty, and other education support staff

  • Determine training needs and provide opportunities for individual professional development

  • Oversee departmental faculty in accomplishing their jobs on a daily basis

  • Maintain an environment conducive to student, faculty, and staff success

  • Partner with other PTC departments to develop and administer services and resources that supports the achievement of student success

  • Participate in institutional strategic planning activities

Administrative

  • Determine the schedule and faculty teaching assignments to maximize resource efficiency

  • Manage program budgets

  • Determine transfer credits for potential students

  • Develop, implement, and manage program Retention Management Plans

  • Monitor relevant PTC reports and take action to achieve departmental and institutional goals

  • Conduct quarterly activities such as classroom observations and team meetings to maintain open lines of communication and provide opportunities for constructive feedback

Program Sustainability and Growth

  • Ensure consistent delivery and quality of curriculum

  • Determine, assign, and monitor curriculum revisions and development

  • Participate in planning and coordinating advisory board meetings at least two times per year

  • Student & Faculty Support Services

  • Resolve student issues not solved by the Student Advisors or Program Coordinators

  • Work with applicable support personnel to resolve all technology issues for faculty and students

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Master’s degree in related discipline

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Minimum of five years’ management experience, including proven leadership for at least six full-time direct reports. Preference given to education administration experience.

  • Minimum of three years’ teaching experience. Preference given to secondary and post-secondary teaching experience.

  • Management experience must include selection, training, evaluation, and termination of personnel.

  • Demonstrated fiscal responsibility in terms of budget preparation, review, and reporting.

WORK SCHEDULE
Full-time – 40 hours per week
