Full- and Part-Time Research Positions in Computational Imaging and Machine Learning
The Center for Computational Imaging and Personalized Diagnostics (CCIPD) at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) is seeking talented and motivated researchers across all levels (summer students, undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers) with interest and expertise in computer science to work on radiomics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning in the fields of medical imaging, radiology, digital pathology, oncology, cardiovascular disease, nephrology and ophthalmology.
Interested candidates should have a background in programming, ideally with both MATLAB and C++. Undergraduate and graduate students will be working on development of image analytic/machine learning algorithms for clinical applications.
The center offers an intellectually stimulating environment for students and postdocs to develop and apply image-computing solutions to highly translational and clinically relevant problems in oncology, cardiology, nephrology and neurology. Students and postdocs work closely with the clinical collaborators, including radiologists, pathologists, surgeons, and medical, and radiation oncologists. The CWRU campus is located in the heart of Cleveland and is within a 10-minute walk of 3 nationally and internationally renowned medical centers: University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center.
Representative projects within CCIPD include distinguishing normal from disease states. The lab works on different patient cohorts, ranging from cancers like lung, breast, rectal, brain, head and neck, to non-oncologic related pathologies like chronic kidney disease, Alzheimer’s disease, cardiac failure, eye disease, and inflammatory bowel diseases. Examples include: recurrent brain tumors from post- radiation changes, planning surgical margins in patients undergoing excision for rectal cancers using MRI, predicting the need of adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer patients, amongst many others.
Since its founding in 2012, the center has rapidly grown, now boasting over 50 members including faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students and post-doctoral researchers. In the past year, the members have received awards amounting to over $6.8M in federal, state and industry funding. Center members published over 35 peer-reviewed papers and had 11 patents issued in 2019 alone.
The Center is also heavily involved in translational activities with a number of grants and joint projects with industry partners in medical imaging and cancer diagnostics. CCIPD researchers also work closely with a number of cancer diagnostic and medical imaging companies on industry sponsored research projects. Additionally, the Center has spawned two startups and averages 1 patent issuance every six weeks.
We are seeking to fill undergraduate, masters and post-doctoral positions. Applicants for post-doctoral positions must have a Ph.D. degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in research. A successful candidate would have or be pursuing a degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field and a demonstrable record of accomplishment in medical image analysis, neuroimaging, computer vision, and image registration and feature extraction. Experience in programming is preferred with programming knowledge in C++, MATLAB,Python being of value.
