Job Description:
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Dr. Edward Balistreri at University of Nebraska and Drs. Dermot Hayes and Wendong Zhang at Iowa State University are recruiting a postdoctoral research associate to study Chinese Agricultural Policy and Trade. Funding is available for 14 months until April 2022 and this position will be housed at ISU Center for Agricultural and Rural Development.  The position is funded through a USDA NIFA grant focused on quantifying the impacts of US-China and global policy through international markets.   

Specific duties will include:

Contribute to the USDA NIFA grant quantifing the transmission of US-China and global policy impacts through a new commodity-specific international general-equilibrium system. Research and analyze critical Chinese agricultural policies and market trends, agricultural trade, and publish research results in scholarly journals. Topics include but are not limited to trade and agricultural markets with an emphasis on meat and feed grains, as well as China’s recent trade deals such as RCEP. Write approximately two Choices-magazine-style policy briefs explaining changes in Chinese agriculture, trade, and policy. See the ISU China Ag. center website at https://www.card.iastate.edu/china/publications/ for examples. Lead or contribute on grant proposals to agencies such as U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Science Foundation.

Required qualifications: Ph.D. in economics or agricultural economics.

Preferred qualifications:

•          Research experience in international and agricultural trade modeling.

•          Written and oral fluency in Chinese and English.

•          Programming proficiency in GAMS and quantitative models using GTAP data.

•          Experience working effectively with project teams and professional groups.
