This position offers a robust basis for pursuing a later career in academic radiology. Opportunities for career advancement are available including attending a daily Radiology resident conference.


Responsibilities include:

  • Active involvement in radiology research projects conducted by different subspecialties within radiology.
  • Screen, consent, recruit, and select patients for studies.
  • Schedule visits and keep patient information records and database up to date.
  • Collect, process, store and transport pertinent data, images and biological samples in relation to protocol.
  • Assist PI in development of protocol-specific tools to aid in study documentation.
  • Assist PI in the preparation of submissions to Institutional Review Board (IRB) and other required regulatory committees.
  • Perform data analysis and prepare manuscripts. Candidates will be included as an author in related publications, commensurate with the candidate’s efforts.
  • Interact with research stakeholders within radiology and in the institution at large, for example with the Office of Clinical Research.
  • Interact with study sponsors, monitors and clinical research organizations from study feasibility through study closure.
  • Participate in research review sessions as well as in research meetings related to the projects the research assistant is conducting.
  • Maintain all certifications required to be actively involved in research projects at UMass, for example CITI certification.



  • A commitment equal to or exceeding 2 years is desirable.
  • Basic understanding of statistical analysis is desired.
  • Familiarity with basic computing, including mastering Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and EndNote.
  • Familiarity with PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems) and other systems for image transfer, is desired, but not required.
