Responsibilities: The Instructional Designer reports to the Director of Distance Learning and Faculty Development and is responsible for collaborating with JTCC faculty in the development and support of distance learning courses and programs. The Instructional Designer leads the Certificate Program for Online Pedagogy course for all full-time, part-time, and dual enrollment instructors and assists the Director in implementing the distance learning strategic plan, including certification of courses and programs. The Instructional Designer will be supported in and expected to seek professional development and certifications necessary to maintain expertise in best practices for online course design and delivery and to stay abreast of established and emerging educational technologies.
Qualifications: Master’s degree; coursework or training in instructional design, educational technologies, curriculum and instruction, and adult learning; experience with Canvas administration and tools; knowledge of best practices in distance learning; minimum of one year teaching experience in a distance learning modality; experience designing courses for online or blended delivery; excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to work effectively with faculty and staff in the use of instructional technology and course development; demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team; and excellent project management skills. Successful completions and passing of criminal background check is required. Preferred: Experience in a community college setting; knowledge of effective instructional design principles and strategies; ability to stay current with emerging pedagogical practices, especially those supported by technology; knowledge of innovative distance learning methods and online course design and delivery; experience with Quality Matters; and background in graphic design.
