Position: Dean of Academics (6th-8th Grade)
Reports to: School Director

Who We Are

The United Schools Network (USN) is a nonprofit organization in Columbus, Ohio, that starts and manages urban public charter schools that close the opportunity gap. The network includes two high-performing middle schools and two high-performing elementary schools. We are seeking a Dean of Academics to join our network at Columbus Collegiate Academy – Dana Ave. and Columbus Collegiate Academy – Main St.

CCA-Dana Ave. / CCA-Main St. will consider hiring a full-time Dean of Academics who:

Leadership Skills & Characteristics

  • Demonstrates tenacity and persistence in pursuit of solutions that maximize student achievement.
  • Works collaboratively with the leadership team and instructional staff to support the needs of all students.
  • Exhibits the ability to effectively relate to, engage, and communicate with a diverse group of students and their families in one-on-one, small group, and large settings.
  • Communicates effectively in both formal and informal settings.
Administrative Duties

  • Assists with the recruitment, selection, evaluation, and retention of outstanding instructional staff.
  • Creates, monitors, and sustains a school culture of academic rigor through clear expectations of student’s families, faculty, and administrators using techniques outlined in Teach Like a Champion and Get Better Faster.
  • Implements a coherent research-based curriculum in the core subjects.
  • Equips teachers with information regarding how to use instructional tools (e.g. i-Ready) to inform student ability level and effectively bolster student performance in academic classes.
  • Establishes a lucid, comprehensive, and aligned system of student assessment.
  • Creates a professional learning community in which teachers regularly collaborate to reflect on and refine curriculum and instruction at the school using achievement data, student work, and observations/experiences.
  • Administers, teaches, and leads professional development when appropriate.
  • Provides all relevant data, reports, and information to school leadership and instructional staff.
  • Observes teachers on a regular basis and provides both quantitative and qualitative feedback.
  • Achieves dramatic and consistent improvement in student academic performance.
  • Helps identify and develop future instructional leaders.
  • Collaborates with the Dean of Students, Associate Dean of Students, and teachers in order to eliminate student behavior concerns as items preventing students from finding academic success.
  • Serves as a District Representative, when requested, for special education meetings.
  • Participates on the building leadership team and shares school-wide administrative tasks with the team.
Experience & Qualifications

CCA-Dana Ave. / CCA-Main St. will consider hiring a full-time Dean of Academics who:

  • Is dedicated to educational success for all students.
  • Has proven school leadership skills in urban settings with an emphasis on data-driven instruction and demonstrable gains in student achievement.
  • Has 5+ years experience working in classrooms and schools, preferably in urban schools and/or communities (preferred).
  • Is open and committed to implementing frequent feedback.
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Has technological proficiency using Google & Office products.
  • Holds a B.A./B.S. degree.
Terms of Employment

This position will begin on July 1, 2021 though applications will be considered immediately. The starting salary for this position is $55,000, benefits are competitive, and teachers are eligible to participate in Ohio’s State Teacher Retirement System (STRS).
