Job Summary

Provide classroom and lab instruction in an open-entry competency-based environment teaching various courses which may include: desktop support, networking, server administration, routing and switching, cybersecurity, programming fundamentals, and cloud computing in a competency-based environment preparing students for industry certifications and employment. Develop new curriculum and update existing curriculum as needed, create courses to support delivery in a competency-based environment, attend all required department and school meetings, and fulfill department and school assignments. Serve on school and college committees.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Becomes familiar with, and abide by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization. 
2. Maintains professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators. 
3. Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments. 
4. Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards. 
5. Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades. 
6. Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance. Informs students of progress to date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines. 
7. Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment. 
8. Follows and abides by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy. 
9. Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1-2 days) 
10. Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure. 
11. Completes all required employee trainings. 
12. Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines. 
13. Administers ADA accommodations as needed. 
14. Delivers competency-based education training in a self-directed, open-entry, open-exit practical application format in a variety of settings which prepare students for certification and employment. 
15. Advises students on the program requirements and their progress through the courses. 
16. Assesses student’s abilities and provide appropriate documentation and feedback. 
17. Provides industry standard instruction and manage students from diverse populations in an open-entry/open-exit competency-based environment. 
18. Accommodates various learning styles, especially hands-on training not limited to the classroom. 
19. Advises students of the program requirements and their progress through the courses. 
20. Assesses student’s abilities and provide appropriate documentation and feedback. 
21. Assesses and report student progress. 
22. Provides an industry viewpoint to the training program so that students will be prepared to enter the work force. 
23. Works with the faculty in the department for continuous improvement to the curriculum and instructional delivery. 
24. Supports College and School of Applied Technology policies and guidelines. 
25. Completes all classroom management reports and process in a timely manner 
26. Participates in faculty development activities within the department and the College. 
27. Provides feedback in curricular and equipment decision and completes assignments associated with program development activities. 
28. Demonstrates and supports professional commitment to division, school, and college mission and values. 
29. Be proficient in the academic application/use of electronic media and online course management systems, specifically Canvas. 
30. Communicates issues and/or concerns with the Department Coordinator and/or Associate Dean. 
31. Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

1. Current Linux, Cisco, Microsoft, Cybersecurity and related certifications preferred. 
2. Bachelor’s Degree or higher in related field. 
3. Programming/scripting knowledge and experience (PowerShell, Python, etc.). 
4. Cisco Certified Academy Instructor (CCAI), Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT), CompTIA Certified Technical Trainer (CTT+) 
5. Experience with cloud technologies (Azure, MS 365, AWS, virtualization) 
6. Cybersecurity knowledge and experience

Minimum Qualifications

1. AAS/AS Degree or higher and industry certifications from Microsoft, Cisco, Linux, Security and/or similar relevant certifications from other vendors and 2-3 years work experience or 
2. 6 years recent teaching and/or work experience in related field

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College. The ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

Special Instructions

Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. 

Selected finalist will be required to participate in a teaching demonstration and maybe asked to provide recommendation letters. 

SLCC HR Dept will conduct criminal background checks on the selected finalist. In addition, Official Transcripts from the selected finalist are required before offering employment.

Faculty salaries are commensurate upon higher education and experience. SLCC offers a comprehensive benefits package for FT Faculty members.
