Department Summary
The Department of Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies at the University of Oregon (UO) seeks to hire a Postdoctoral Fellow with a scholarly focus in the Pacific Northwest region beginning in Fall 2022. The University of Oregon has recently created the Just Futures Institute (JFI) (https://cef.uoregon.edu/pnw-just-futures-institute/ ) with funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The Just Futures Institute (JFI) is a multi-campus initiative that seeks to foster deeper understanding of the connections between environmental justice, climate change, and racial justice in the Pacific Northwest. This postdoctoral position is part of the JFI.

Position Summary
Scholars working on any dimension of Indigenous and/or Ethnic Studies with a focus on the Pacific Northwest region will be considered. We welcome applicants who focus on Indigenous, Black, Latinx, Asian American, or Pacific Islander communities from any disciplinary perspective, including American Studies, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, History, Geography, and Literature, among others. We especially encourage those engaged in intersectional analyses, including gender, sexuality, comparative, relational, and interdisciplinary approaches. The successful candidate will be expected to teach one course during the academic year and be actively involved in the department and JFI.

The Department of Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies provides a rich intellectual community for students and scholars interested in questions of race, power, and indigeneity. In addition to offering a minor and Bachelor’s degree, it just launched a Ph.d program. IRES is also the administrative home to minors in Indigenous Studies and Latinx Studies and provides administrative leadership for Black Studies.

Minimum Requirements
• Ph.D. (by time of appointment)
• Demonstrated expertise with Indigenous, race, and ethnic studies.

Professional Competencies
• Professional experience, demonstrated ability or potential for quality teaching.
• A commitment to working effectively with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications
• Teaching experience in Indigenous, Race, and ethnic studies.
