We are looking for two full-time, non-tenure track research faculty positions at the rank of Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological, Health, & Learning Sciences at the University of Houston. The successful candidate will be involved in increasing scholarship productivity within the Department, increasing the national recognition of the College, and working closely on team science endeavors with other faculty and staff members under Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Lorraine Reitzel. The Research Faculty position(s) will support research in the areas of tobacco control and treatment, cancer prevention and health equity science across several funded grants and contracts.  The Research Assistant Professor(s) will participate in study design, data collection and analysis, and scholarly writing for publications and presentations. The Research Assistant Professor(s) will also work with the PI and co-Investigators to provide training and direct supervision to undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral research assistants working on projects. The Research Assistant Professor(s) will also work directly with the community for recruitment and in the delivery of education, specialized training, and other tasks as assigned.

The successful candidate(s) will have expertise in tobacco control (e.g., tobacco treatment specialist training), cancer prevention, or health equity sciences. The successful candidate(s) will be expected to have expertise in the use of qualitative or quantitative methods, and a significant record of supporting the conduct of funded grants and contracts. While independent funding is not required for this position, there may be opportunities for the Research Assistant Professor(s) to apply for grants as a PI, if interest arises. The position is grant funded and subject to continued funding. Competitive salary based on experience.

  • PhD or Doctorate degree in anthropology, psychology, public health, or closely aligned field. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an academic environment
  • Experience working on funded grants/contracts  
  • Experience writing grant proposals (or sections of grant proposals)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • A record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Strong working knowledge of qualitative or quantitative sciences
  • Experience with tobacco control programs  
  • Bilingualism (English and Spanish)
  • Expertise in preparing study results for presentation and publication
