The Simulation / Laboratory Technician (ST) provides operational support for simulation and skill activities. The ST serves as a technical expert who is able to set up, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and occasionally repair simulation equipment, and AV/IT equipment used in simulation. The ST provides support for nursing student’s skill development by setting up all necessary equipment. The ST is familiar with the various modalities of simulation education and has a good grasp of simulation educational principles, and is therefore able to assist in the development, setup, delivery, and takedown of simulation and skills education sessions. This position collaborates and works closely with the Simulation Coordinator and Laboratory Technician.
30% - Operates and maintains simulation equipment, task trainers, computerized simulators, virtual reality procedural trainers, and simulation related A/V equipment
15% - Ensures appropriate set-up and timely changeover of rooms and resources between sessions
10% - Coordinates with faculty instructors in designing, planning, testing, and operating simulations to meet specified objectives
10% - Assists with the coordination, development, and appropriate utilization of standardized patients
10% - Assists in identifying support resources and installing new software or updates and supports simulation equipment as appropriate
5% - Maintains and organizes inventory of equipment and supplies
5% - May participate in the briefing of learners prior to simulation sessions
5% - Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position
5% - Attends seminars, conferences, in-service training, and staff meetings, as required
5% - Performs other duties as assigned
Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two full-time equivalent years of experience such as providing assistance to students in an instructional setting; and/or preparing, maintaining and delivering equipment, supplies or other related instructional materials used for laboratory activities in area of assignment
High School Diploma/GED and four full-time equivalent years of experience such as providing assistance to students in an instructional setting; and/or preparing, maintaining and delivering equipment, supplies or other related instructional materials used for laboratory activities in area of assignment
A. Intermediate to Advanced computer skills
B. Experience multitasking using multiple systems at once
C. Experience operating and troubleshooting computers and equipment
D. Simulation experience in healthcare
Special Working Conditions
May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time, viewing a computer monitor
May be required to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50lbs.
