Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow within the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (CABM) at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. 
Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct research on bacterial chemotaxis proteins. The project will involve purification, and biochemical, biophysical and structural characterization of S. meliloti signal transduction and chemoreceptor modification enzymes alone and in complexes. The project may also involve crystallization, enzyme assays, isothermal titration calorimetry, mutagenesis and computational analyses. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be expected to participate in the configuration and maintenance of instrumentation necessary for conduct of the project. It is expected that research will lead to publications and the Postdoctoral Fellow will be expected to prepare manuscripts as well as contribute to the preparation of grant progress reports. The fellow will also be expected to guide the research project of an undergraduate research assistant.  
Among the key duties of this position are the following: 
  • Carries out biochemical and biophysical characterization of a novel S. meliloti chemotaxis protein with the goal of defining its enzymatic activity.
  • Conducts protein purification, crystallization, X-ray crystal structure determination, enzymatic assays, isothermal titration calorimetry, and computational analyses. 
  • Participates in the configuration and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and equipment, including computers, necessary for conduct of the project. 
  • Prepares scientific manuscripts for publication, and contributes to the preparation of research grant progress reports. 
  • Supervises and guides the research project of an undergraduate research assistant.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related science.
  • Prior experience and productivity in research must be demonstrated.
  • Experience with standard molecular biology techniques, protein purification, and biochemical and biophysical analyses. 
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Expected to be proficient in spoken and written English. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with crystallization, structure determination, enzyme assays, isothermal titration calorimetry, and computational analyses including molecular dynamics.  
  • Previous mentoring experience.
