About the Department
The Department of Nuclear Engineering offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Nuclear Engineering. We are the only nuclear engineering program in the state of North Carolina and one of the premier departments in the southeast United States. The Carolinas currently contributes to the advancement of the nuclear enterprise regionally, nationally and internationally. Through collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, NC State’s Nuclear Engineering Department is increasing its footprint on the national and global level. 
With an increasing faculty population and research areas/projects, there is greater opportunity for learning in the broad areas of Nuclear Power Design and Safety Analysis, Radiation Science and Engineering, Plasma Science and Engineering, Nuclear Materials, Waste Forms and Storage, Nuclear Security and Non-Proliferation, and Nuclear Computational Science. Non-traditional areas will be also explored (e.g., medical physics, decommissioning).

Essential Job Duties
Teach NE 201: Introduction to Nuclear Engineering; NE 408: Nuclear Engineering Senior Design Projects; NE 400: Nuclear Reactor Energy Conversion; NE 500: Advanced Energy Conversion in Nuclear Reactors; and NE 491/591-007 Sp. Topic: Probabilistic Risk Assessment and Management of Nuclear Systems. Conduct research and education activities in the area of system analysis and probabilistic risk assessment related to design and safety of currently operating and future advanced nuclear power plants. Prepare proposals to fund the research, mentor undergraduate students, and guide M.S. and Ph.D. students in related research. 
Other Responsibilities

Minimum Education and Experience
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or Nuclear Engineering and one year of experience as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar or Graduate Student Researcher. 
Other Required Qualifications
Must have demonstrated experience with methodology development and implementation of simulation-based probabilistic risk assessment methods for evaluating the safety of complex systems; methodology development and implementation of reliability methods for the design of complex systems; design and development of model-based human reliability analysis methods for complex systems; Bayesian methods for treating dependencies, integrating expert judgment, and assessing model uncertainty; and development of hybrid dynamic Bayesian network methods for system prognostics and health monitoring.
