JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering, in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (University Park, PA), is seeking a postdoctoral scholar.

This position requires extensive experience in design, synthesis and characterization of electroactive polymers and composites. The candidate should have prior experience with synthesis of the electroactive polymers and measurement of their dielectric and electromechanical properties (piezoelectric coefficients, ferroelectric properties, elastic constants). These prior experiences will be evaluated based upon the peer-reviewed high impact factor journal publications and conference proceedings. The candidate will conduct advanced studies on development of electroactive polymers with superior dielectric properties and electromechanical performance. It is expected that candidate has knowledge of materials synthesis and characterization (e.g. FTIR, XRD, DSC, TGA) and understanding of how to tailor the dielectric and piezoelectric properties to meet application requirements. The candidate will be actively collaborating with multiple academic members and thus good communication skills are desired. The candidate is expected to participate in development of project reports and proposals and thus good technical writing skills are highly desired.

It is expected that applicants will have completed a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field by the start of the position.

This position is funded for one year from the date of hire with possibility of renewal.

For full consideration, applicants must upload the following with their application:

  • Cover letter detailing their qualifications for the position
  • CV that includes a list of publications
  • Names and contact details (e-mail addresses and telephone numbers) for three references
