Associate Scientist - (22000736)

Description

 

Grade: T26

As directed by the principal investigator, the Associate Scientist is responsible for the design and planning of experiments with a certain degree of independence commensurate with prior training and experience. The Associate Scientist will focus on planning and executing experiments in collaboration with the PI and research team, performing outlined experiments, analyzing data, and troubleshooting experiments as needed; assisting with mouse and tissue handling; and assisting in the organization and general maintenance of the laboratory as needed.

Responsibilities include: execution of biochemical, cell biological, and molecular biological experiments in animals and cultured cells (mammalian, bacterial, yeast); interpretation of data resulting from experiments; completion of routine tasks directed to the general functioning of the research laboratory, including maintaining a clean and safe work area and adherence to all biosafety standards and policies regarding hazardous materials. Attendance at scheduled weekly laboratory research meetings is required. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences and four years of related Postdoctorate experience. 

Required Skills and Abilities:
*Ability to perform analytical experiments using genetically engineered models of cardiovascular diseases and molecular biology experiments using primary cultured vascular cells. 
*In-depth technical knowledge and experience in Cardiovascular Physiology and Cell Signaling
*Demonstrated proficiency in operating all required laboratory equipment.
*Ability to use the Microsoft office programs.
*Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
*Demonstrated ability to independently make complex decisions within broad guidelines

This is a grant funded position.
