Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist IV in Behavioral Sciences at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The purpose of the Research Teaching Specialist IV position is to support research that focuses on understanding and promoting health-related behaviors among individuals with cancer and those at risk for cancer, under the direction of the Program Development Specialist or Principal Investigator.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Teaching Specialist IV is responsible for all phases of multiple research projects and ensuring compliance with study protocols.
  • Screens, recruits, consents study patients, collects study survey data, and maintains participant research records in consistence with procedures outlined in each study protocol and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Enters data and runs analyses in SPSS statistical software.
  • Conducts qualitative analysis and media reviews for health behavior related images and messaging on various media outlets.
  • Provides administrative oversight of any ongoing or new pilot research studies.
  • Creates study surveys in the Qualtrics survey software program and DatStat participant management software.
  • As directed, provides support in the preparation of presentations, lectures, manuscripts, research proposals and any other research related activities.
  • Directly initiates communication with staff from outside organizations to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to study implementation.
  • Provides support in data processing, storage, and preparing data for quantitative analysis.
  • Provides support in the cleaning of study data.
  • Conducts targeted literature reviews, and facilitates development of publishable research manuscripts.
  • Assists in IRB submissions, developing consent forms and study related recruitment materials.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement

Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s Degree in a relevant social science or related field (e.g. psychology, social work, public health or social science) or Bachelor’s Degree plus one (1) year of behavioral research experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, coordination and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and an ability to set priorities for productivity.
  • Effective oral and communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and SPSS.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative yet seek supervision as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with patients in multidisciplinary medical professionals. The position will require working several weekday evenings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with Qualtrics Survey software program.
