Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Database Management Programming Analyst for the Center for Tobacco Studies. Under the direction of the leadership of the CTS Office of Survey Methods and Data Analysis, The Database Management Programming Analyst will be responsible for data management oversight of original data collected by the CTS. The Database Management Programming Analyst will coordinate data management of specific protocols – including implementing data management for past and ongoing projects. Will work in a collaborative team environment to develop and maintain appropriate electronic databases consistent with protocol aims and works with study coordinator(s) and investigator(s) on data management needs and reporting customized to each project. Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Work with investigators and CTS staff to develop databases and archive CTS data consistent with the approved protocol for individual projects.
- Maintain and manage research data and databases using SAS, STATA, or SPSS software.
- Develop codebooks based on CTS data in accordance with established practices at CTS.
- Develop materials to assist with training CTS staff to utilize CTS databases.
- Utilize statistical software to clean data in preparation for analysis by data analysts.
- Develop data processes and documentation to facilitate future use of project data.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement |
Rutgers University requires all new employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the employee a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Biomedical Informatics, or related sciences plus one (1) year (two (2) years preferred or related biomedical research experience); or Master’s Degree in Public Health, Biomedical Informatics with clinical or epidemiologic research database experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Must have a high level of computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite and data querying tools.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with at least one statistical package (SAS, STATA, SPSS, etc.).
- Good understanding of research components – data collection, human subjects protection, quality assurance and control.
- Strong computer knowledge and graphic experience a plus.
- Ability to learn and integrate other related computer applications into existing operations.
- Must have excellent project management, time management, communication, interpersonal, decision making, analytic, and reporting skills.
- Must be able to work with a wide range of individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives on data usage including faculty, staff, and senior administrators, as well as individuals at other institutions and government offices.
