The Department of Pathology at the University of Virginia (UVA) within the School of Medicine seeks applications for a Senior Scientist to support research activities amongst several stakeholder laboratories within the recently formed UVA Focused Ultrasound Cancer Immunotherapy Center (FUS C/I Center). Research in the FUS C/I Center is aimed at developing and implementing focused ultrasound approaches for enhancing anti-cancer immunity.  The FUS C/I Center is a dynamic interaction between biomedical engineers, tumor immunologists, cancer biologists and imaging experts.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing pre-clinical therapeutic protocols combining focused ultrasound application to tumors in combination with immunotherapy. Cancer applications of interest include breast cancer, melanoma, pancreatic and brain tumors. Exceptional candidates will be encouraged to pursue extramural funding to perform independently developed research projects. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with other stakeholder groups in the FUS C/I center to understand the immunological consequences of applying focused ultrasound to tumors, and recommend, design, and implement immunotherapies to complement focused ultrasound regimens. The selected candidate will intellectually engage with the UVA FUS C/I community to foster new research directions, improve the quality of existing research, and lead preclinical focused-ultrasound investigations with the intent of developing next generation FUS C/I clinical trials.

Qualifications, Contact Information, and Job Posting: Candidates must hold a PhD in an Immunology or Cancer field. Previous work with preclinical models of cancer is required, along with flow cytometry. Some postdoctoral research experience and familiarity with ultrasound imaging is preferred. Interested candidates are encouraged to directly contact Dr. Timothy Bullock (tb5v@virginia.edu ) with inquiries.

This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance. Priority application review will begin April 22, 2022, but the position will remain open until filled.
