Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Department of Geographical Sciences at University of Maryland, College Park, is seeking a Professional Track Research Faculty Member at the Post-Doctorate Associate rank. Salary and benefits are highly competitive. The researcher will contribute to research activities under the USDA-NIFA funded project. The primary activities under this position include developing pre-season and in-season decision support tools (e.g. in-season nitrogen recommendation tool) using process-based crop models and remote sensing; and evaluating, improving and implementing process-based crop models to simulate the impacts of climate change and adaptation strategies. We are seeking a potential candidate with expertise in process-based crop modeling, uncertainty characterization and statistical downscaling. The successful candidate will closely collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and he/she will communicate with stakeholders involved in the project, and present outcomes of the project at scientific conferences and meetings, as well as write reports and publications.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in agricultural engineering, soil science, terrestrial ecology, or climate sciences. Candidates must have demonstrated experience in using and improving process-based crop models such as Environmental Policy Integrated Climate (EPIC), Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer (DSSAT), APSIM or equivalent, and have hands-on experience in multivariate statistics.

Preferences:

Experience and skills in programming languages (e.g. Fortran, C++ and Python/R) and analytical skills in model evaluation are strongly preferred.
