Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Program Director in Cancer Health Equity at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The primary purpose of the Program Director is to oversee the development and management of research projects within the Biobehavioral and Cancer Health Equity Lab. Trains, manages, and coaches project staff. Oversees the implementation and dissemination of ongoing research and obtaining preliminary data for grant submissions, and data management and analysis. Develops strategies for maintaining efficiency and advises the PI on budget issues. Collaborates within the department and with other investigators, community partners, vendors, and other key stakeholders.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Performs professional and scientific research in the biobehavioral research laboratory and advises the Principal Investigator (PI) on strategies to meet project goals. Develops research strategies for carrying out project objectives.
  • Establishes standard operating procedures, protocols, and techniques for implementing research projects safely, effectively, and efficiently.
  • Drafts or develops protocols, study materials, abstracts, presentations, and reports. Contributes to grant submissions and manuscripts.
  • Provides high-level collaborative and independent research support for the PI. Updates and strategizes with the
    Principal Investigator on project progress, problems, and areas of improvement.
  • Collaborates closely with interdisciplinary teams and other stakeholders at all levels, inside and outside the organization, including investigators, community partners, and vendors.Determines staffing needs and optimizes each employee’s strengths. Trains, supervises, evaluates, and/or
    disciplines subordinate staff.
  • Oversees staff responsible for regulatory documentation, including IRB submissions and NIH progress reports.
  • Ensures all research staff are properly trained on job performance. Coaches and mentors undergraduate and
    graduate students and staff in research skills and career development, as needed.
  • Assists in the preparation of budgets, and makes budgetary recommendations. Manages budgets and maintains
    records of fiscal expenditures.
  • As needed, conducts team meetings and represents the PI at meetings.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.  Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility .  Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine .  Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Psychology, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of research project coordination experience.
  • At least two (2) years of experience working in a supervisory/management capacity.
  • Experience in clinically related research. 
  • Experience with regulatory documentation, recruiting and enrolling patients to research studies. 
Certifications/Licenses
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Superior organizational skills with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability with SPSS programming and experience analyzing data.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • May need to work additional hours.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of five (5) years of research project coordination experience in a healthcare or academic environment.
