Nature of Work
The Center for Health Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Ludeman Family Center for Women's Health Research, and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine invite applications for a Professor with a research program at the intersection of Women’s Health and Artificial Intelligence. The successful applicant will hold the inaugural Lyda M. Ludeman Endowed Chair in Bioinformatics in Women’s Health Research, which was awarded to the Ludeman Family Center for Women’s Health Research to provide for research and teaching that will focus on biomedical informatics as it relates to women’s health.
The Ludeman Family Center for Women’s Health Research at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus invests in and conducts groundbreaking research in women’s health and sex differences with a current focus on cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and the integration of physical and mental health. Given that research on women’s health was largely not included in studies until the 1990s and has historically been underfunded, the Ludeman Center is dedicated to funding the next generation of scientists focused on women’s health and sex differences research. In addition, the Center is committed to mentoring and training young scientists while educating the community and healthcare providers about findings in the field.
The Center for Health AI fosters a thriving community of researchers on the Anschutz Medical Campus who are inventing and deploying advanced analytical approaches. The goal of building this community is to make the Campus a leader in translating data into advances in research practice, health care delivery, and population health and in scaling these to provide nationwide benefit through innovative technologies.
This position considers the unique attributes of sex and gender differences in women and the unique challenges that these attributes pose to developing robust care, public health strategies, and understanding of the underlying mechanistic biology. The Ludeman Family Center for Women’s Health Research is a national leader in cutting-edge research on issues that pose a significant threat to women’s health – cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and the integration of mental health and physical health. We are particularly interested in research that considers informatics methods that bring together attributes such as chromosomal, physiological and biological aspects with social and cultural differences. Faculty in the Center for Health AI focus on computational approaches that derive insights from data to lead to advances in research and medical practice. The new faculty member will join a highly interactive, supportive, and interdisciplinary community of faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and students that extends across both Centers and enjoy access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The primary duties of the faculty member are to develop a research program of national and international importance at the intersection of artificial intelligence and women’s health research and sex/gender differences research and to mentor and educate trainees and students.
The campus includes a vibrant and entrepreneurial basic research community with multiple areas of excellence and translational impact. There are many opportunities on campus to translate data-intensive research advances into improved care. The Center for Health AI is collocated on the Anschutz Medical Campus with the UC Health University of Colorado Hospital, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center. The Anschutz Campus is home to Colorado’s only Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute. The Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine houses the region’s largest Biobank. The campus has made a significant investment in an enterprise health data warehouse collecting electronic health record data from 10-member hospitals and dozens of clinics available for research. This warehouse integrates electronic health record data for 1.7 million active patients from 12-member hospitals, >800 clinics, and state public health databases for research.
Within the intersection of these fields, the search is not specific to a single data type or analytical approach. Potential data types may include various health records data, -omic profiling methods, wearable data, app-based data, and combinations thereof.
We will offer successful candidates a competitive startup package.
We expect this faculty member to find their academic home in our newly forming Department of Biomedical Informatics.
