HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support the Department of Pathology located at the Rockledge Office in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to the Department of Pathology.

Responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team. Pursuits research along a focused line of inquiry and has a manuscript in development. The candidate will be expected to work across two main lines of research at least. The first line of research will focus on TBI and TBI-Blast related molecular, neuropathological, and behavioral abnormalities using and compare animal and human tissues, mainly but not exclusively brain tissues. The second line of research will focus on the effects of different types of energies (ionizing radiations, electromagnetic fields, directed energy) impacting the brain and other brain-related tissues (i.e. eyes, inner ears, muscles).

  • Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research and/or development. (25%)
  • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products. (20%)
  • Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which involves specialized procedures. (25%)
  • Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments. (10%)
  • Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals. (15%)
  • Interacts with other scientist and research staff in a constructive manner. (5%)
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of appropriate scientific area; ability to analyze and interpret data; should have a strong research background in either neuroscience, molecular cell biology, biochemistry and/or molecular genetics.

    Minimum Education: Doctoral degree required.

    Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: Minimum 0-5 years of experience required.

    Physical Capabilities: Requires lifting materials up to 20 lbs.

    Work Environment: 

    •  Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, or exposure to chemicals.
    •  Conditions that affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
    •  Occasional evening, holiday, or weekend work required.
    •  This job takes place in a laboratory environment.

    Work Arrangement: This position is 100% on site and has no teleworking capability.

    Background/Security: Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/Public Trust.
