We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to work in a dynamic research environment funded by multi-year grants from National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Science Foundation (NSF) (http://sculptingregeneration.org ). The postdoctoral fellow will employ multidisciplinary approaches by combining biomaterial design, microtechnology, nanotechnology, mechanobiology, stem cell biology, and genetic approaches to understand fundamental processes in tissue regeneration and to develop advanced therapeutics against tissue injury, degeneration and fibrosis. Target organs include the bone marrow, bone and lungs. The key research areas include: single cell mechanobiology (e.g. doi.org/10.1002/advs.202001066 ) and encapsulation therapy (e.g. doi.org/10.1038/s41551-021-00740-x ); engineering immunomodulation and tissue remodeling (e.g. doi.org/10.1126/sciadv.aaw0158 ); controlling extracellular vesicle transport (e.g. doi.org/10.1038/s41565-020-0636-2 ) and biogenesis (e.g. doi.org/10.1021/acsnano.1c03231 ). The Principal Investigator (PI) will help the fellow develop his/her career by providing a collaborative and inclusive research environment. The PI will encourage the preparation of research papers, application of fellowships, and presentation at national/international meetings.
The laboratory is housed in the Department of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine at the College of Medicine (http://mcph.uic.edu ). The Department has a dynamic group of junior and senior faculty, postdoctoral fellows and PhD students. The department's strengths are in the broad areas of cell signaling, cardiovascular and lung biology, stem cells and regenerative medicine, and therapeutic development. The Department has been consistently ranked top 10 in NIH research funding in the field of Pharmacology. In 2020, the Department was ranked in the top 10 in the United States based on QS World University Rankings by Subject in Pharmacy and Pharmacology.Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- Candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Sciences or Engineering
- Demonstrated expertise with a publication record in at least three of the following areas:
- Cell biology and engineering: e.g. cell culture, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy
- Molecular biology and engineering: e.g. plasmid cloning, CRISPR
- Animal studies with rodents: e.g. transplantation, survival surgery, in vivo imaging.
- Hydrogel design and characterization: e.g. chemical conjugation, NMR analysis, rheological analysis
- Microscale techniques: e.g. micropipetting, atomic force microscopy, micropatterning, microfluidics
- Nanotechnology: e.g. nanoparticle tracking analysis, nanoparticle synthesis, TEM/SEM
- Minimum of two first-author primary research articles in international journals
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Motivation to pursue high quality research to address novel scientific questions
- Evidence of collaboration and mentoring others
