Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Maryland College Park, MD, invites applications from qualified individuals for two tenured/tenure-track faculty positions in Biomedical Sciences. This 9-month appointment will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, depending on the qualifications of the selected candidates. The Department has an excellent state-of-the-art core facility, which also includes BSL-2 and BSL-3 suites.
A Ph.D., DVM, or Ph.D./DVM or equivalent degree with relevant Post-Doctoral training.
RESEARCH: Current focus is on host-pathogen interactions, prevention and control of zoonotic infectious diseases with emphasis on virology, bacteriology, parasitology, immunology, microbial pathogenesis, and public health. To better achieve its mission, the department is developing its interdisciplinary research and teaching programs in biomedical sciences. The two positions require the candidates to focus on biomedical sciences at molecular and cellular levels that involve animal and human health.
The candidates with an outstanding biomedical science background in pathology, inflammatory diseases, structural biology, neurobiology & degenerative diseases, metabolic disorders, cancer biology & oncology, and stem cell & regenerative medicine, are especially encouraged to apply. We are seeking highly motivated candidates with the potential to develop an internationally recognized research program in biomedical sciences. The selected candidate will be expected to develop, maintain, and conduct a productive, extramurally funded research program. Applicants at the Assistant Professor level are expected to have a strong publication record. Candidates applying at the Associate Professor level must have an established research program with an active or record of extramural funding. The selected candidate will develop and maintain active and productive collaborations, both within the department and with the other departments including the Department of Animal & Avian Sciences in the College or others in the Universities. Excellent opportunities exist for collaboration with federal agencies (USDA, FDA, NIH) and other Universities nearby.
TEACHING: Active and enthusiastic participation in the University’s Teaching Program will be required, including mentoring students and serving on student advisory committees. The selected candidates will be responsible for the teaching or development of new courses with their expertise to be included in the current veterinary medicine curriculum. These new courses will be developed in conjunction with the fulfillment of the college’s current and future teaching objectives and mission goals. Salary will be commensurate with rank and experience.
