This is a part-time faculty pool for potential assignments during the 2014/2015 academic year. Applications are considered throughout the academic year and reviewed based on department need. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends.

Requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire.

Upon hire, must pass security inquiry which may include criminal and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered.

 Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaches assigned classes following approved course outline; prepares and develops materials for assigned classes; provides students and college with course syllabi and recommends textbooks and other instructional material and/or equipment

Provides classroom environment conducive to learner growth in a variety of delivery methods (individualized, small group, lecture/discussion); instructional duties and group facilitation

Maintains student records of grades and attendance; scores tests and develops student educational plans

May participate in curriculum development; may recommend textbooks and other instructional materials/equipment; may recommend library and reference materials; may recommend course outline revision

Keeps current on technological changes, developments in subject area, and innovative teaching techniques

Understands, develops, and provides a learning environment that supports diversity and incorporates a sensitivity to diversity in the workplace

Promotes and applies the college's values for teaching and learning; creates a learning climate of mutual respect and fairness; encourages creative and critical thinking; actively engages students in the learning process; facilitates learning that applies to and enriches students; encourages mutual responsibility for a supportive learning environment; clarifies expectations and encourages student responsibility for learning; and promotes learning as a life-long process

Performs other related duties as directed
 Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree and experience will determine which courses may be taught.  Following are examples of qualifying degrees. 

Master's Degree from an accredited institution in biology or related field with 30 graduate credit hours in biology with an emphasis on botany and ecology
-OR-
Master's Degree from an accredited institution in biology or related field with 30 graduate credit hours in biology with an emphasis on cell biology, genetics and molecular biology
-OR-
Master's Degree from an accredited institution in biology or related field with 30 graduate credit hours in biology with an emphasis on cell biology, botany and anatomy and physiology
-OR-
Master's Degree from an accredited institution in microbiology or related field with 30 graduate credit hours in microbiology with an emphasis on biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, cell biology and immunology
-OR-
Master's Degree from an accredited institution in environmental science or related field with 30 graduate credit hours in environmental science 
-OR-
Master's Degree from an accredited institution in marine biology or related field with 30 graduate credit hours in marine biology

 -AND-

Ability to demonstrate effective teaching skills 

The degrees listed above are not inclusive.  The division dean will make the final determination about the applicability of a particular degree.  The dean and department chair can determine the applicability of a particular degree to teaching a specific course listed above.

Preference may be given to Chemeketa employees based upon current labor/employment contracts.

Teaching assignment may include evening and week-end courses and the use of non-traditional delivery methodologies e.g., cable television and on-line/internet courses.

Recently hired faculty are expected to participate in a new faculty orientation program.
