Job Summary This posting represents anticipated ongoing part time instructor openings in the field of Biology and Management of Zoo Animals.

Term pay rate may vary by course. Actual term pay is based on the course catalog contact hours multiplied by the appropriate hourly rate. All newly hired part-time Faculty will be placed on Step 1. 

These positions are included in the bargaining agreement between Portland Community College and the Portland Community College Faculty Federation Employees. Employment in these positions will require, as a condition of employment, payment of monthly union dues or a monthly fair share fee in lieu of dues through automatic payroll deduction. 

Portland Community College will hire only United States citizens and aliens lawfully authorized to work in the United States. All new employees will be required to complete the designated Immigration Service Employers Verification I-9 form.  
Responsibilities/Duties -Instruct students, using approved course outcome guides developed by college-wide subject area Faculty. 
-Assess and grade student achievement of learning outcomes. 
-Use student feedback to improve teaching. 
-Be available for a reasonable amount of student contact to respond to questions and to resolve problems related to the course through time spent before or after class or through telephone or e-mail exchanges or office hours where facilities and schedules permit. 
-Attend one staff meeting per term as directed by the College and when notified by the Division Dean. 
-Provide additional hours of course-related student conferences or tutoring over and above classroom instruction when courses are designated as requiring such.  
Minimum Qualifications BMZA 107: 

Master's degree in Horticulture, Botany/Plant Sciences, Landscape Design, Agricultural or Environmental Sciences or a related field (and have completed at least 30 quarter hours of upper division credit in the subject area) AND have a minimum of three years of recent teaching or non-teaching experience in horticulture 
OR 
Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Botany/Plant Sciences, Landscape Design, Agricultural or Environmental Sciences or a related area (and have completed at least 30 quarter hours of upper division credit in the subject area) AND have a minimum of four years of recent teaching or non-teaching experience in horticulture 
OR 
Associates' degree in Horticulture, Botany/Plant Sciences, Landscape Design, Agricultural or Environmental Sciences AND have a minimum of five years of recent non-teaching experience in horticulture 
OR 
Have a high level of demonstrable competency gained through a combination of study, teaching experience, and/or professional performance in the subject area AND have a minimum of five years of recent professional and/or teaching experience in the area of horticulture. 

BMZA 220: 

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree PLUS veterinary licensure in the State of Oregon by the Oregon Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners 
OR 
Associate of Applied Science degree or the equivalent in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited institution AND State of Oregon Certification as a licensed Veterinary Technician (CVT) AND 5 years of recent experience working in a veterinary hospital, clinic, research facility, or the equivalent with at least 2 years of experience with exotic animal medicine 
OR 
Have a high level of demonstrable competency gained through a combination of study, teaching experience, and/or professional performance in the subject area AND have a minimum of five years of recent professional and/or teaching experience in the area of exotic animal veterinary medicine. 

BMZA 265: 

Associate's or Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in construction or a field appropriate to construction AND five years recent technical experience in residential/light commercial or animal exhibit construction is required. Teaching experience in the area of construction may be substituted for recent construction industry experience 
OR 
Have a high level of demonstrable competency gained through a combination of study, teaching experience, and/or professional performance in the subject area AND have a minimum of five years of recent professional and/or teaching experience in the area of construction. 

All other BMZA 100- and 200- level courses: 

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or Master's in Zoology, Zoo and Aquarium Management/Leadership, Wildlife Biology, Animal Behavior, or Animal Sciences or related science field or science education (and have completed at least 30 quarter hours of upper division credit in the subject area) AND have a minimum of three years of recent teaching or non-teaching experience in the subject area 
OR 
Bachelor's degree in Zoology, Zoo /Animal Science, Wildlife Biology, or Animal Behavior, or related science field or science education (and have completed at least 30 quarter hours of upper division credit in the subject area) AND have a minimum of four years of recent teaching or non-teaching experience in the subject area 
OR 
Associate's degree in Zoo Technology AND have a minimum of five years of recent non-teaching experience in the subject area 
OR 
Have a high level of demonstrable competency gained through a combination of study, teaching experience, and/or professional performance in the subject area AND have a minimum of five years of recent professional and/or teaching experience in the subject area. 

*Instructors shall have earned required academic credential at a regionally accredited institution.
